Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be a vital member of the executive leadership team, responsible for developing and executing the company's financial strategy to ensure long-term stability and growth.

This role involves providing strategic financial guidance, overseeing finance and accounting functions, and partnering with operational leaders to maximize profitability and cash flow. The CFO reports to the CEO and works closely with the Board of Directors to support strategic initiatives and organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial strategy and planning: Develop multi-year financial plans aligned with company growth objectives, including revenue, profit margins, and investment strategies.
  • Oversee construction accounting and project financial performance: Ensure accuracy in job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and project margin analysis.
  • Drive financial forecasting and budgeting: Manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts, integrating project schedules, labor requirements, and capital investments.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital: Develop short- and long-term cash forecasts and optimize billing, collections, and liquidity management.
  • Maintain enterprise risk management: Oversee banking relationships, surety and bonding, and evaluate financing strategies, ensuring sufficient capacity to support operations.
  • Supervise financial controls and governance: Establish and uphold internal control standards, segregation of duties, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Enhance financial reporting and systems: Implement scalable financial systems, streamline processes, and develop executive dashboards for real-time decision-making insights.
  • Lead mergers, acquisitions, and integrations: Support due diligence, valuation, and post-close financial integration for strategic growth opportunities.
  • Develop and manage finance organization: Build a high-performing team, fostering leadership development, succession planning, and accountability.
  • Partner with operational leaders: Collaborate on project evaluations, risk assessments, and operational finance to support company profitability.
  • Support compliance and external audits: Manage relationships with auditors, tax authorities, and financial partners, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a CFO or senior financial executive role within a complex, project-based environment.
  • Extensive experience in construction, specialty contracting, heavy equipment, or industrial services industries.
  • Proven ability to lead financial functions including planning, analysis, forecasting, project accounting, and internal controls.
  • Deep knowledge of job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, backlog, and project margin management.
  • Significant experience supporting unionized workforces, understanding collective bargaining agreements, union wages, fringe benefits, and related labor cost impacts.
  • Strong financial systems expertise, with a history of implementing or optimizing ERP and reporting tools.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, business judgment, and executive communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in building high-performing finance teams and providing actionable insights to executive leadership.
