Sales & Use Tax Senior – Contract Role with a Real Estate Industry Company
Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sales & Use Tax Senior to join a dynamic team on a contract basis. This remote role offers the opportunity to contribute to the company's tax compliance efforts across all 50 states, working closely with finance and accounting leaders. The successful candidate will help ensure timely and accurate filing of sales and use tax returns, supporting the organization’s compliance with state and local tax regulations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns: Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual filings across all states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Gather, manipulate, and analyze data: Support accurate tax return preparation through detailed data analysis and reconciliation.
- Research jurisdictional notices: Respond promptly to notices from taxing authorities and communicate their status to relevant teams.
- Maintain filing and payment procedures: Establish and update processes for tax filing and payments with state tax agencies.
- Assist with quarterly estimated income tax spreadsheets: Help prepare and review estimated tax calculations to ensure compliance.
- Prepare payment requests for estimated income taxes: Facilitate timely remittance of state estimated income tax payments.
- Support federal and state income tax return preparation: Assist in preparing subsidiary income tax returns and supporting schedules.
- Reconcile sales tax liability accounts: Investigate and resolve discrepancies in sales tax accounts to maintain accurate records.
- Utilize Vertex software: Apply knowledge of Vertex software for indirect tax return preparation and submission.
Requirements
- Experience with sales and use tax compliance: Minimum of 7 years of direct experience preparing and filing state and local sales and use tax returns.
- Proficiency with Vertex software: Hands-on experience using Vertex for indirect tax filings is required.
- Strong data analysis skills: Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets for tax compliance purposes.
- Knowledge of multi-state tax regulations: Familiarity with tax laws across all US states, including jurisdictional notices and procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple filings and deadlines efficiently.
- Effective communication abilities: Capable of responding to notices and liaising with tax authorities clearly and professionally.
- Detail-oriented approach: Precision in reconciling accounts and preparing accurate filings.
- Remote work capability: Proven experience working effectively in a remote environment.
