Fixed Asset Accounting Manager with an engineering and construction company.
 

Summary

The Fixed Asset Accounting Manager oversees the full lifecycle of the company’s US and Canada fixed asset portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence across multiple sub ledger systems, currencies, and branch locations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and reconciliations across multiple sub-ledger systems in the US and Canada.
  • Lead and develop a team of three accountants, providing coaching, performance management, and technical guidance.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over fixed asset processes, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, GAAP, and audit requirements.
  • Evaluate and mitigate risks within the fixed asset lifecycle, implementing corrective actions and sustainable control enhancements.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline and automate workflows, enhance accuracy, and strengthen system integrity.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including Operations, FP&A, Procurement, and IT to support capital project planning and execution.
  • Prepare and present reporting to senior-level management, offering insights on asset performance, trends, and financial impacts.
  • Manage fixed asset activity across multiple currencies and foreign locations, ensuring timely and accurate consolidation.
  • Fulfill internal and external audit requests, providing documentation, explanations, and remediation plans as needed.
  • Support system integrations and upgrades related to fixed asset modules and sub-ledger platforms.
  • Ensure on-site presence to collaborate effectively with Operations and other business partners.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Manage a team of 3 accountants.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in fixed asset accounting or related fields in a large multi-location or global organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
  • Expert-level knowledge of fixed asset accounting principles, GAAP, tax, and internal controls.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple systems and navigate complex sub-ledger environments and preferably Oracle and Sage fixed assets system.
  • Strong analytical and risk evaluation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with diverse stakeholders including Operations and senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Ability to work on-site and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical skills/proficiency – Strong Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access PowerPoint). SQL experience is a plus.
  • HFM expertise – Hands-on experience using Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), HFM Planning and Excel SmartView.
  • Acquisition – Integrations – Experience of acquisitions and fixed assets systems integrations is highly desirable.
