Controller with a best-in-class multifamily real estate investment, development and asset management firm.

Summary

The Controller will lead the firm’s accounting and financial reporting functions. This individual will work closely with the CFO and executive leadership to oversee all aspects of the firm’s corporate, development, and partnership accounting, while managing outsourced providers and internal processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of corporate and project-level accounting, treasury, and financial reporting
  • Manage month-end and quarter-end close processes across multiple entities and investment vehicles
  • Review and analyze monthly financials for development projects and operating assets
  • Lead the preparation of financial reports for investors, partners, and lenders
  • Interpret and enforce terms of complex JV agreements, including waterfalls, reporting obligations, and capital account tracking
  • Maintain and review property revaluations and waterfall calculations on a quarterly basis
  • Track and ensure compliance with financial and reporting covenants outlined in loan agreements
  • Supervise and enhance treasury operations including cash management, disbursements, and vendor payments
  • Direct and manage third-party accounting providers to ensure timely and accurate output
  • Coordinate with internal development and asset management teams on cost tracking, invoice approvals, and partner communications
  • Lead the audit and tax preparation process for corporate and project-level entities
  • Maintain project-level tax capital schedules and contribute to tax planning efforts
  • Support acquisition and disposition closings from a financial operations perspective
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems, processes, and internal controls

Requirements 

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate
  • CPA required (or equivalent experience with CPA eligibility)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial acumen
  • Deep understanding of real estate development and investment structures
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with systems such as Yardi, Entrata, and QuickBooks
  • Proven ability to manage external providers and internal workflows
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
