Corporate Controller with a mid-sized private-equity backed manufacturing company.
 

Summary

The Corporate Controller will report to the CFO and is responsible for all financial accounting practices of the Company in accordance with GAAP, reporting of actuals for total Company and subsidiary results, maintaining up-to-depth understanding of current and new accounting standards, supporting operational efficiency and decision-making with the CFO and business/ functional key stakeholders, and driving strong relationships with banking and audit partners.

Responsibilities

Financial Accounting and Actuals Reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for actuals, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, including Free Cash Flow, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and potential risks within the manufacturing operations and sales performance for consolidated results and multi-site locations.
  • Drive robust Balance Sheet Reconciliations ensuring Company liabilities are property reflected, and financial exposures mitigated.
  • Develop and present insightful management reports to senior leadership and key stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production costs, inventory management, and profitability.
  • Partner with multi-site leads to develop robust analytics to identify meaningful business insights to maximize sales growth, drive profitability and optimize net working capital.

Treasury and Cash Management

  • Oversee and manage all treasury and banking functions for Headquarters and local Plants/Businesses.
  • Responsible for all banking relationships and cash management, including 13-week cash flow forecasts.
  • Rigorously manage Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable, ensuring timeliness of inbound and outbound payments, driving best practices and efficiency across multi-location sites. Heavy focus on their impact to Net Working Capital.
  • Heavy oversight of deductions and customer short pays, focused on process improvement and consistency of deduction management across sites.
  • Oversight of establishing controls and consistency for customer credit terms, and monitoring credit performance for customers and Company.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Collaborate with departmental managers and business/plant leads to develop comprehensive annual budgets, including production costs, overhead expenses, marketing spend and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor budget performance against all actual results, identifying areas for cost optimization and corrective action, and ensuring execution against root cause.
  • Support the development of regular forecasts based on market trends, sales projections, and production plans.

Cost Accounting and Inventory Management

  • Provide best practices in cost accounting, net working capital management and capital expenditure approval and tracking.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of robust cost accounting systems to accurately track direct materials, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead costs.
  • Analyze inventory levels and turnover rates to optimize inventory management strategies and minimize carrying costs.
  • Support variance analysis to identify and address production cost discrepancies; ensure team accountability.

Internal Controls, Compliance and Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with banking requirements and covenant testing.
  • Lead all financial audits and build strong partnerships with external auditors.
  • Lead all tax reporting and compliance in partnership with our external tax team.
  • Manage all entity-level compliance and reporting for annual plans, multi-state licenses and PE-level requirements.
  • Responsible for Risk Management, including commercial insurance annual renewals and insurance strategies in partnership with our external brokers.
  • Monitor compliance with GAAP (current and upcoming) and other applicable accounting standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in a foodservices environment is a strong plus
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management practices
  • Proven ability to develop, manage and lead a team of accounting professionals
  • Experience in a PE-backed company and multi-site locations is a plus, given the high-demand and high-paced environment
  • Strong ability to manage against deadlines and drive accountability across the organization on deliverables
  • Excellent analytical skills are a must, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
  • High proficiency in ERP systems and financial software applications; implementation of ERP and MRP in a manufacturing environment is highly desired
